Board of Education Shares Staffing Update for the 2026–2027 School Year

The Alvord Unified School District Board of Education remains committed to making thoughtful, fiscally responsible decisions while continuing to support our employees and students.

Earlier this year, as part of the District's annual staffing process, 72 preliminary certificated Reduction in Force (RIF) notices were issued in accordance with state law.Β The reduction in force was due to a significant decline in enrollment over the past several years.

Through careful planning and ongoing analysis of enrollment, staffing needs, retirements, resignations, and available vacancies, the District was able to significantly reduce the number of employees impacted. Additionally, the Board of Education recently approved six new Instructional Specialist and a Counselor on Special Assignment positions. These positions will provide additional support to our teachers and students while helping to strengthen instructional services and student success across the District.Β As a result, only 36 teachers will be released for the 2026–2027 school year, compared to the original planning estimate of up to 72 that were originally noticed.Β Β

The Board of Education also approved providing the employees impacted by layoff with two additional months of District-paid medical benefits, demonstrating its commitment to supporting employees during this challenging transition while maintaining the District's long-term fiscal stability.

As the new school year approaches, the District will continue to closely monitor enrollment and staffing needs. Should additional positions become available, it is possible that some of the teachers who were released may be offered the opportunity to return for the 2026–2027 school year.

The District sincerely appreciates the dedication and service of every employee affected by this process and thanks the Board of Education for its thoughtful leadership, compassion, and commitment to both our staff and the long-term success of Alvord Unified School District.
